The Story Behind the Art

I originally painted this in the middle of a tough season when it felt like people were tearing down my world around me. I found myself needing the frequent reminder that this world is not my home. I had to regularly recite scriptures such as:

• “For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” (Heb. 13:14)
• “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Phil 3:20)
• “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (I John 2:15)

However, the old hymn, “This World is Not my Home” by Jim Reeves, is what continually looped through my mind:

This world is not my home
I’m just a-passing through
My treasures are laid up
Somewhere beyond the blue

I remember singing this song in church as a child, barely able to see over the pew in front of me. There’s a lot to be said for the songs we sang when we were young and the effects they have on us, but the lyrics of this one really spoke to me. So I painted the globe, added the text and hung it in my office. It’s served as a steadying presence for me and I love what it stands for, so I made these stickers as reminders. I hope you enjoy them as well.
