Watercolor’s translucent nature makes it a beautiful but challenging medium. In this class, students will learn the basics of using watercolor, including techniques, supplies, and how to overcome common challenges. Together, we’ll paint a variety of subjects, giving students plenty of practice with this unique art form.

Introduction to Watercolor is a 13-week course where we master basic skills and build on our progress each week. Each week I will present a specific area of watercolor instruction and have students work on related exercises. Then students will work on a project in class (and at home) to give more practices on the skills just learned. This class is ideal for those who feel already confident drawing or are comfortable tracing images, as no drawing skills will be covered.

Supply List

You’ll need to own your own watercolor supplies and you’ll need to bring them to class with you. This will allow you to practice at home between classes. If you don’t already own your own supplies, you can purchase them for $40-55 (depending on your paper choice), and they’ll last you quite a while! Paper is really the main thing that you’ll want to rebuy and that will depend on how much practicing you do.

Check out my recommendations here: Watercolor Supplies. If you’re looking for an easy button, you can see links to my top recommendations all on one Amazon list as well.

If you don’t want to mess with Amazon and splitting larger packs with friends, you can purchase a pre-assembled watercolor kit from me.

Age Range:

  • This art course is designed for students 13 years old and older.
  • However, I have found that a passion for art is more important than a certain age. This curriculum works for a wide variety of ages. Students need to be self-motivated, have the desire to learn watercolor, and be willing to practice at home.
  • If you have a child younger than 13, please contact me and we’ll talk about it so we can decide together if this would be a helpful course for him/her.

Course Size

We plan to limit this course to 12 students to allow for plenty of individual attention. If fewer than 6 students register by Sept 2nd, the course will be canceled (in which case all fees would be returned). Once the max is reached, contact me to be put on the wait list.

Be sure to check out our 1 week cancelation policy too!
