Pet Portrait Commissions
by Julie Abels
I’m so glad to hear that you’re interested in commissioning me to create your pet’s portrait! I always enjoy drawing animals and I love commemorating family pets- from new puppies to long-lived desert tortoises, and everything in between.

In order to create the perfect pet portrait for you, I’ll need some information from you. You can fill out this form and send it to me or you can contact me and we can set up a time to chat about what you’re looking for. Generally, I will ask you about:
- What photos you have
- What size and what orientation (portrait vs landscape) portrait you’d like
- What media you want the portrait created in (see below)
- What your timeline is
What if I don’t have any photos of my pet that I like?
Here are some tips on how to get a great photo of your pet.
I also work with a lot of families who would like to memorialize their deceased pet and I understand that you don’t always have that perfect photo. Send me your favorites and a few extra photos that show your pet from different angles. I’m happy to work with whatever you have, but I will need to charge a little more as I will be creating a composite portrait from whatever photos you can provide.

What size and media do you create in?
You can commission me to create your pet’s portrait in a few different media. Click through these links to see approximate sizes and prices. Of course, I’m always happy to talk about doing something different than what is offered here:
- Watercolor on Watercolor Paper (usually 4″x6″ or 5″x7″ or 8″x10″)
- Ink on a Wood slice (usually a 4″ wood round, although other sizes are available)
I have to limit the number of commissions I can take each week, so if you need the item by a certain date, be sure to contact me ahead of time to find out if that’s possible! Generally, your ‘place in line’ is set when you pay for your item. The status of all my commission items is “backorder” because I don’t have a way to schedule commission work on this platform. If you’d like to pay half up-front and half upon completion, please contact me and I’ll arrange for that.

Do you create other types of commissioned works for art?
Yes! You can find more info about my art and my commission process here.

I absolutely love how this painting turned out. My mother saw it and teared up in joy. I would recommend Julie to anyone looking for a painting of there pet!
